Regardless of where you are in your Be You journey, the time will come when you need to make that next step. That progression can take many forms, including:
1. Making learning visible
Make your learning community aware of Be You and the work you’ve been doing. You could do this by displaying the Be You logo, including updates and news about Be You in newsletters, and sharing changes in your practice with everyone in your learning community.
2. Extending your understanding of mental health and wellbeing
To be as effective as possible, schools and early learning services need to continually expand their knowledge and skills to implement the best mental health and wellbeing practices for their learning communities. This could relate to being aware of the mental health continuum and understanding that where people sit on that continuum can fluctuate and be influenced by context and/or environment.
Why is progression important?
Be You Professional Learning is all about continuous improvement. Mentally healthy communities need to continually expand their knowledge and skills to implement the best mental health and wellbeing practices.
Reflecting on what you’ve already learned provides an informed approach to identifying what step you will take next. But knowing exactly what that step is can be challenging.
Here are a few ideas that might help.
Tools and resources to support progression
A range of Be You tools can be used to support you to extend your Professional Learning once you’ve completed modules. For example, the Implementation and Reflection Toolkit includes prompts to help you reflect on current practice and supports you to plan future actions across each of the Be You domains.
Learning communities can also attend Be You Sessions and Events and use Be You Tools and Guides.
The Share and Extend Guide can be used to foster collaboration. You can use various strategies to consolidate and share what you’ve already learned. This can help you identify and explore the next steps on your learning journey.
Be You Sessions and Events offer opportunities to share learning and participate in conversations and discussions about how learning can be put into action.
Celebration is a great next step
Recognising achievements and growth is important, and is worth celebrating. Additionally, identifying any gaps in what you know can help strengthen your commitment to continuous improvement and exploring new ways of “being and doing”.
