Meeting, learning, chatting, listening and sharing online is all part of the Be You experience.
Be You has a number of events and sessions including Conversations, Essentials, Spotlights and Connected Communities where participants join via Zoom with cameras on and microphones muted but ready to go.
We all adapt and modify the ways we communicate to suit the context we are in, but perhaps when we are in the online space, we aren’t so sure about the rules of engagement.
To get the most out of the Be You online space here are four things to keep in mind:
1. Take care of yourself
When we are talking about mental health there can be triggers for some people. When you are joining online, only share what you feel comfortable with and if you need support, talk it through with someone. Remember always Stay Smart Online.
2. Take care of each other
Not only is it vital that we take care of ourselves in an online community, we must also take care of each other. That means when we meet online we consider other’s needs and feelings. We think about how we talk about our workplace and team, and we de-identify any information we share.
3. Take care of children
We all have a professional responsibility to ensure the protection and wellbeing of children. When we are talking about children online it is vital we maintain confidentially and respect their privacy. Use strength-based examples, focusing on a child’s skills and capabilities, and don’t share personal information.
4. Zoom practise makes perfect
Be You is now using Zoom for all our events and sessions. If you want to be more confident before your first online meeting, we recommend you sign up for a Zoom account and get in and have a play and practice.
Zoom also has a library of video tutorials which are useful in supporting you as you learn to navigate the platform.
We also share this information about Zoom at the beginning of each session and event.
Confidence is something you create. It’s not about knowing it all, it’s about trusting that no matter what happens in a particular situation, you will be able to handle it.
Let’s grow our digital confidence together. See you in your next session or event.
