Heartening words from the Be You community

Members share the benefits of joining a Be You Connected Community in field.

Jul 26, 2022

Be You Connected Communities for early learning are national, co-designed online communities where members engage in ongoing conversations.

There are a variety of Connected Communities to suit a range of interests and being and becoming a member is just one of the many ways of participating in Be You.

Partnering with Families

Partnering with Families Be You Connected Community began in 2019 and has members located across Australia, from a diverse range of early learning services, support organisations and roles. Over the years, the communities’ conversations have included sharing and working together through service policies, the use of Be You tools and resources, research, experiences and strategies to engage and partner with families.

Member insights

Long-term members return to the community conversations because they experience a range of benefits. Four members have shared their insights with Be You Consultants, Emma and Kathryn, who help facilitate the community meeting space.

“We began our journey with Be You Partnering with Families at the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, when our team joined an online meeting. At this meeting, we critically reflected with educators from early learning services across the country. We felt supported and gained practical ideas that helped us navigate the change sensitively for children, families, all staff, and our local community.”

Jennifer Koutoulas, Director, Educational Leader and Early Childhood Teacher, NSW

“As a member of Partnering with Families Be You Connected Community, opportunities have been championed to reflect upon the establishment, development and maintenance of relationships as a key protective factor in supporting positive mental health outcomes."

Dr Debra Williams, Australian Christian Early Education and Care Centres, NSW and QLD

“This community is a wonderful source of knowledge and encouragement. It has provided opportunity for insight from educators and these conversations have helped me to inspire and establish Parents & Citizens Association early learning representatives in the ACT."

Marina Spurgin, Early Learning Officer, ACT Council of Parents & Citizens Associations, ACT.

“Being part of this community has been great for me as I am quite isolated geographically and rarely get to talk with other educators outside my own small service. I can ask questions, share achievements and challenges, and discuss relevant issues in a safe space. Other people’s perspectives, especially during COVID-19, have been interesting, and it’s always been a positive and refreshing experience to connect with them.”

Louise Fitzpatrick Leach, Kindergarten Teacher, Ouyen Preschool, VIC
