Affirm the importance of social and emotional learning and resilience
Social and emotional learning is about developing the ability to care for others, make responsible decisions, establish positive relationships and handle challenging situations. These skills are essential for developing resilience and the personal attributes that promote wellness, prevent illness and support recovery.
As an educator, it is important to understand why these concepts are essential in supporting the lifelong mental health and wellbeing of children and young people.
Who is this module for?
This module is for educators who want to learn more about social and emotional learning (SEL) and resilience. It is also suitable for educators who want practical strategies that help support social and emotional skill development and resilience.
It will help you:
- build your understanding of the role SEL plays in the development of resilience
- identify everyday strategies to support social and emotional skill development
- better understand your role as an educator in supporting SEL.
Accreditation
This module contributes to the NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA) and ACT Teacher Quality Institute (TQI) accredited professional development hours, addressing the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers.
In the ACT, completing Affirm will contribute 90 minutes of ACT Teacher Quality Institute (TQI) accredited professional learning addressing standard 4.4.2 Maintain student safety of the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers.
In NSW, completing the Affirm module will contribute 90 minutes of NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA) accredited professional development in the priority area of Student/child Mental health addressing standard descriptor 4.1.2 from the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers towards maintaining Proficient Teacher Accreditation in NSW. Educators can complete modules individually and receive accredited hours.
All registered teachers in every state and territory must ensure they have added their teacher registration number and state/territory to the My Profile page.
